four questions to ask of architects, contractors, and vendors when interviewing:
- does a team member on staff have any sustainable certifications such as LEED, Well, or Passive House?
- what is your most recent project that incorporated sustainable building practices? What practices were employed? can you provide the property owner’s contact as a reference?
- given what we have discussed, what certifications, if any, may suit this building? And if it does not fit into one category specifically, what could we extract from these certifications to that illustrate your experience building in a sustainable manner?
- are there multiple improvements that can be accomplished when paired together (e.g. when re-siding for fire hardening, add rigid foam insulation on the exterior to improve energy performance and comfort)?
